New Hampton School announces the appointment of Nick Whitmore as the Head Coach of Men’s Varsity A Basketball Team and Brett Benzio as the Head Coach of the Women’s Varsity A Basketball Team.
Nick Whitmore follows in the footsteps of previous Head Coach Peter Hutchins who has accepted a position as Men’s Varsity Assistant Coach at Dartmouth College. Nick was previously the Men’s Varsity A Assistant Coach and an English faculty member for two years at New Hampton. After graduating from Concord High School and Boise State in Idaho, Nick went on to coach basketball at the Drew School in San Francisco, co-founded Bay City Basketball AAU and, most recently, Nick served as the Director of Basketball Operations for the University of San Francisco before returning to New Hampshire where he grew up.
"We are going to miss Coach Hutchins,” says Athletic Director Jamie Arsenault, “but I feel extremely fortunate to have had Nick working with the team the past two years. His insight and knowledge of the game has been a huge part of the continued success of New Hampton Basketball. Nick is ready to take over the reigns for Pete, and I am confident that Nick will continue to improve on our long standing tradition of recruiting outstanding people and players who will represent Husky Nation with character and pride.”
Brett Benzio joins New Hampton School from the University of Vermont Women’s Basketball coaching staff. Prior to that, she served as an assistant coach and Director of Basketball Operations at Harvard.
"I am very excited to have Brett Benzio as our Women’s Varsity Basketball Coach,” says Jamie Arsenault. “She will inherit a strong group of student-athletes who Freddy Petkus brought to New Hampton School. With Brett’s history as a Division I and professional athlete, as well as her Division I coaching background, she will hit the ground running and be an outstanding role-model and mentor to our girls!”
As an athlete, Brett was a four-year starter at Tulane University in Conference USA and became the second in Green Wave history to reach the 1,000 point and 1,000 rebound milestone. After graduating from Tulane, Brett played professionally for two season for DJK Bamberg in Germany.
We are excited for the leadership and experience that Brett will bring to her position as the Women’s Head Coach at New Hampton School. She will be an excellent role-model and talented coach for a strong group of student-athletes. In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Brett will serve as a Math Faculty and student advisor.
Congratulations to both Nick and Brett.
