Endowment Funds

New Hampton School is grateful for the many merit and need-based endowments available to support our current students, faculty, and staff. Witnessing the growth and collective spirit in our community each year is a privilege and an important perspective to ensure that the vision of the School carries us forward into future generations.

  • A. STANLEY LITTLE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The A. Stanley Little Expendable Scholarship Fund was created in September 2003 by Arthur S. Little, Jr. The recipient of this scholarship must be a resident of New Hampshire and eligible for financial aid. This is an expendable scholarship to be distributed over 25 years.
  • ACADEMIC RESEARCH CENTER ENDOWED FUND

    The ARC endowment was created in 1997 with the intention of providing for the salary of the librarian. The donor to the ARC expects NHS to use the endowment policy set by the Board for distribution.
  • ALAN NOLET ENDOWMENT FUND

    This endowment fund was created in 1994 by Alan Nolet to benefit the student counseling program at New Hampton School.
  • AUSTIN C. STERN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Stern family and friends of the Stern family have established the Austin C. Stern Scholarship Fund in recognition of his impact as a dedicated and inspirational administrator, teacher, coach, and mentor to students during his 20-year career at New Hampton School. The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarships for highly dedicated students in need of financial support. Special consideration will be given to international students or those who show a particular interest in, or aptitude for, the study of history, geography, or government.
  • BARBARA GUARDENIER MASTER TEACHING CHAIR IN SCIENCE

    The Barbara Guardenier Master Teaching Chair in Science is awarded once every three years to a member of the New Hampton School science faculty. The Chair will represent the very highest tradition of science teaching, as embodied by longtime faculty member Barbara Guardenier. The fund distribution for each recipient is directed to professional development and underwriting salary.
  • BLIZZARD BASKETBALL FUND

    This fund, established in 2021, supports the New Hampton School men’s varsity basketball program above and beyond normal operating costs at the discretion of the coach and with the approval of the director of athletics.
  • THE BRIAN CAFFYN '77 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Brian Caffyn ’77 Scholarship Fund was created in 2024 to recognize Brian’s transformative experience at New Hampton School and a successful professional career as a creative innovator and entrepreneur. The Brian Caffyn ’77 Scholarship celebrates and supports students who are not afraid to challenge the status quo and pursue their unique visions with passion and determination. The Fund seeks to recognize and reward exceptional students who exemplify the spirit of innovation through their ability to take risks, demonstrate intellectual curiosity, resourcefulness, ambition, dynamism, and outside-the-box thinking. This scholarship is designed for students who push the boundaries of conventional thinking and strive to make a significant impact in their fields of interest and communities.
  • BUTLER & CLASS OF 1948 BOOK ENDOWMENT FUND

    The Butler & Class of 1948 Book Endowment Fund was established in June 1998 by Dr. Howard E. '45 and Mrs. Beverly G. Butler, with additional support supplemented by the Class of 1948 in 2004. The intention of the fund is to purchase books for the Academic Research Library.
  • CHARLES G. MACVANE, JR. SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Charles G. MacVane, Jr. Scholarship Fund was created in 1975 by Charles G. and Marilyn MacVane in memory of their son, Charles “Chip”, Class of 1971. The award is to be distributed annually to a student that qualifies for financial aid.
  • CLASS OF 1961 INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE FUND

    This endowment fund was created in 2011 during the Class of 1961 50th reunion by members of the Class of 1961 to defray expenses for students who are interested in participating in the International Baccalaureate Program, and/or international travel opportunities.
  • CLASS OF 1965 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Class of 1965 Scholarship was established during the classes’ 50th Reunion in 2015 with the intention to support students, male or female, with demonstrated financial need to attend New Hampton School.
  • CLASS OF 1966 ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Class of 1966 Scholarship was established during the class's 50th Reunion in 2016 to support male or female students who demonstrated financial need to attend New Hampton School. The Class of 1966 Endowed Scholarship Fund represents a meaningful gift in perpetuity to support future aspiring students and gives New Hampton School the latitude it needs to manage/distribute this fund according to the Board of Trustees Endowment Spending Policy and support scholarships, which are critical to the future health of New Hampton School.
  • CLASS OF 1969 SPEAKER SERIES

    This fund, a gift from the New Hampton Class of 1969, will fund guest speakers, ideally alumni, who will bring experiential learning and life-lived experiences to the School. The endowment will encourage the school to include bringing a range of experts from traditional professional and academic experiences to non-traditional contributions offering techniques, examples, and approaches to how to survive and thrive (body-mind-spirit) and chart a life of purpose in a complex, modern and competitive world.
  • CLASS OF 1972 CELEBRATING WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Class of 1972 created the Celebrating Women Scholarship Fund in December 2022 in recognition of the return of female students to campus in 1971 and the graduation of the first women boarding students in 1972.  The purpose of this scholarship fund is to support deserving female students with financial need who exemplify the values of New Hampton School, show the promise of academic and extra-curricular success, and exhibit the potential to become leaders, role models, lifelong learners, and active global citizens. Special consideration will be given to socially and financially disadvantaged students.
  • COURIS FAMILY FUND

    The Couris Family Fund was created by Board of Trustees member John Couris '86 and his family to support the faculty at New Hampton School. Through this fund, the Couris family wishes to help New Hampton School retain top teaching talent and provide resources for a summer enrichment experience—whether that be personal/family travel or a unique professional development experience. The goal is to offer an experience that will refresh and inspire an employee. Full-time teaching faculty are eligible to apply for funds following their second full year at the school and would be ineligible after the receipt of an enrichment experience for five years.
  • DAVID AND JANE HEALD MEMORIAL FUND

    The Dave and Jane Heald Memorial Fund is designed to support and promote the usage and programmatic content of the Total Human Development Room and the Master Classroom in the Academic Research Center. Specifically, the Fund will support faculty development.
  • DAVID RICE FUND

    This fund was created in 1993 as a memorial to David Rice upon his death. In honor of David Rice, the proceeds of this fund will provide support for the Vespers program and other visiting speakers.
  • DEAN JACOBSON '68 MEN'S LACROSSE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Dean Jacobson '68 Men's Lacrosse Scholarship Fund was established in December 2022 by Dean Jacobson '68.  This endowment fund will provide scholarship and incidental resources to recruit talented men's lacrosse players who will also be strong New Hampton School community members.
  • DONALD R. GALLETLY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Donald R. Galletly Scholarship Fund was created in 1996 by the Galletly Family in memory of Donald R. Galletly, Class of 1941. This scholarship is awarded for academic excellence, given to a native-born citizen, male or female, for more than one year if possible. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 average.
  • DONALD S. RICHARDSON TENNIS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Donald S. Richardson Tennis Scholarship Fund was created in 1985 by James M. Richardson, Hugh Richardson, Mrs. Elizabeth P. Richardson, and Mr. Gregory DeWitt. This scholarship is awarded annually for a student who intends to compete in a New Hampton men's or women's tennis program.
  • THE D.R. FOX '68 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The D.R. Fox ’68 Scholarship Fund was created in 2024 to provide financial support to deserving female students who demonstrate a significant need for financial assistance and the drive and capability to succeed in their educational endeavors both academic and athletic. This scholarship aims to empower students who show exceptional promise and determination, ensuring they have the opportunity to achieve their academic, athletic and professional goals.
  • EARL ’62 AND BARBARA LEWIS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Earl '62 and Barbara Lewis Endowment Fund was created to support demonstrated financial need for deserving New Hampton School students. The awarded student(s) will show a strong work ethic across all disciplines with an aptitude and passion, particularly in the areas of math and science. The scholarship will be awarded annually across the four grade levels to maximize the benefit to the New Hampton School student body.
  • EDWARD E. FORD FUND

    This endowment fund was created in 1999 by the Edward E. Ford Foundation with a $50,000 challenge grant awarded to New Hampton School. The fund endows professional development for faculty and is used primarily for work on curriculum and teaching.
  • ELLA AND SARAH MOTLEY FUND

    In recognition of the love and affection that Thomas, Class of 1972, and Frank Motley, Class of 1966, have for the family matriarchs—their mother, Ella Grisby Motley, and their grandmother, Sarah Davis Motley—both of whom stressed education and civic involvement, this fund was established to support the ongoing activities of New Hampton School. The fund shall be used for two purposes: (1) to support the African American experience and diversity-related issues; and (2) as a discretionary emergency fund to assist any student in compassionate circumstances, such as bereavement or sudden illness, or other related personal difficulty, for which the student does not have immediate financial resources available.
  • ELLEN BROWN AND GEORGE WOOLSEY BIERLIN TRUST

    This endowment fund was created on November 11, 1983 by George W. Bierlin, Class of 1961. The annual income of the fund is to be used exclusively for the educational purposes designated by the Board of Trustees. The Trustees make a public statement annually in writing to the student body setting forth the specific purposes for which the income of the Trust was used during the preceding year.
  • FARRELLY-GILMORE CLASS OF 1975 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Farrelly-Gilmore Class of 1975 Scholarship Fund was created in 1975 in honor of Steve Farrelly and Rocky Gilmore. After the passing of their classmate, Rudy Nunez, the name of the fund was amended to add “Class of 1975”. This scholarship is given annually to a deserving student who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • FREDERICK SMITH AND GRACE VOHR SMITH SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Frederick Smith and Grace Vohr Smith Scholarship Fund was created in 1973 to honor Frederick Smith, New Hampton School’s Headmaster from 1926-1959, and his wife Grace Vohr Smith. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student for academic excellence, given to a native-born citizen, male or female day student. This award may be combined with another award.
  • FRITZ ROBBINS SCHOLARSHIP

    The Fritz Robbins Scholarship is awarded annually to a promising student in the visual arts based on portfolio and recommendations.
  • GEORGE AND SANDRA FEARONS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The George & Sandra Fearons Endowed Scholarship Fund was established by George H. and Sandra Fearons, parents of George T. Fearons, New Hampton School Class of 1992. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving student who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • GOLDMAN-SACHS GIVES 2014 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The GS Gives 2014 Scholarship was created in 2014 by Michael J. and Kristen E. Swenson, parents of Edward ’15. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving student who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • GORDON-NASH LIBRARY ENDOWMENT FUND

    This permanent endowment transferred by the Gordon-Nash Library during the merger in January 2020. The assets as dedicated to continuing the mission of the Library, as set forth in the will of Judge Nash and outlined in the G-NL and New Hampton School merger term sheet. New Hampton School agrees to operate the Gordon-Nash Library as a library that is free and open to New Hampton, New Hampshire residents, students, and sojourners.
  • HARRISON GOLDEN ENDOWED FUND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    This endowment fund was created in 2007 by Jason M. Pilalas to provide income in support of professional development for New Hampton School faculty.
  • JEFFREY PRATT BEEDY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    This Fund was established by the Class of 1949 as a scholarship fund. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving student who possesses the intellectual capacity and other qualities necessary to attend a top-tier college or university in the United States and is involved in the New Hampton community, athletics or other extracurricular activities.
  • JENNIFER E. GURECKIS '07 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Gureckis Family has established the Jennifer E. Gureckis Scholarship Fund in recognition of the impact that New Hampton School had on Jennifer, a member of the Class of 2007, during her 3-year attendance. She was a student athlete and role model who made the most of her years at the school. The purpose of the Fund will be to provide a scholarship to a deserving female athlete in basketball or lacrosse. Special consideration will be given to New Hampshire female basketball athletes.
  • JENNIFER SHACKETT BERRY ’83 ENDOWMENT FUND

    In honor of the retirement of Jennifer Shackett Berry ’83, P’07, ’10, ’15, H’19 in June of 2019, the School partnered with members of the Berry Family and donors to create this endowment. All funds will be used towards faculty professional development, a passion close to Jen’s heart.
  • KEITH D. KIDDER 1961 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Keith D. Kidder 1961 Scholarship Fund was created in September 2013 by Keith D. Kidder, New Hampton Class of 1961. The recipient of the scholarship must be from Coos, Grafton, Carroll or Belknap County in New Hampshire, demonstrates financial need and has been a resident of the state of New Hampshire for 10 years or more; the student also shows intent to pursue a career in forestry, wildlife management, conservation law enforcement, environmental law or science, agriculture, or another closely related field of study.
  • KENT FAMILY ENDOWMENT FUND

    This fund, established in 2019 by Veronica M. Kent P’21, will fund faculty and staff professional development focused on technology. The endowment will encourage faculty to gain expertise in the advanced technologies available to today’s students and staff to receive cutting edge training as it pertains to cyber security and other growing technology safety topics.
  • LEONORE LANE PANEYKO SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    This fund was created by Stephen H. Paneyko, the brother of Andrew L. Paneyko, Class of 1957, in honor of their mother Leonore. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving student, who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • LESLIE J. WEED AND ALICE H. WEED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Leslie J. Weed and Alice H. Weed fund was created in 2008 by a bequest from the estate of Alice H. Weed. This scholarship is distributed annually for to a student who demonstrates focus and ability in math or science.
  • LOUIS AND PATRICIA GNERRE SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Louis and Patricia Gnerre Scholarship Fund was established by friends and family members of Louis Gnerre, Jr., former faculty, coach and Head of School. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving student who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • LUKE AND RYAN HARAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Luke and Ryan Haran Scholarship Fund was established by the parents of and friends of Joseph Ryan Haran, Class of 1997, upon his passing. His father’s name was added to the fund in May of 2015 after his passing by request of the family. This   scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving young man, who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • MARK TILTON ENDOWED FUND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    This endowment fund was created in 2007 by Jason M. Pilalas to provide income in support of professional development for New Hampton School faculty.
  • MATTHEW M. RUTTER 1971 MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Matthew M. Rutter 1971 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 by the Rutter family in memory of Matthew M. Rutter ‘71. This scholarship is awarded annually to provide tuition assistance to a highly motivated student of color who demonstrates financial need and a capacity for academic and extracurricular excellence.
  • MENKE FAMILY FUND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

    The Menke Family Fund for Professional Development supports professional development for great teachers at New Hampton School annually. It is the wish of the donor to award such funding to a worthy faculty recipient who embodies the qualities of one of New Hampton's legendary teachers, Rosemary Brewster. These qualities include an unwavering belief in the ability of all students; patience and tolerance for the pace of student learning; a high level of professionalism; and dedication to the New Hampton community.
  • MR. AND MRS. WILLIAM EDWIN BIERLIN, SR. TRUST

    This endowment fund was created on September 8, 1993 by George W. Bierlin, Class of 1961. The annual income of the fund is to be used exclusively for the educational purposes designated by the Board of Trustees. The Trustees make a public statement annually in writing to the student body setting forth the specific purposes for which the income of the Trust was used during the preceding year.
  • NANCY B. TIEKEN FUND

    The Nancy B. Tieken Fund was created in support of Project Week expenses for students who would otherwise not be able to participate. Decisions on the annual distribution of funds shall be made in accordance with school policies and procedures related to Project Week financial assistance.
  • NEIL A. DESTEFANO '73 FUND FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN SCIENCE

    This fund was established in May 2022 by Neil A. DeStafano '73 and his wife, Daryl Lynne DeStefano to support the professional development and educational needs of a science faculty member at New Hampton School.
  • NEIL A. DESTEFANO '73 POST-GRADUATE FOOTBALL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    This fund was established in May 2022 by Neil A. DeStafano '73 and his wife, Daryl Lynne DeStefano to support demonstrated financial need for a deserving post-graduate student-athlete (football player).
  • NEW HAMPTON SCHOOL COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The New Hampton School Community Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by Peter A. and Ellen F. Evans, parents of Paul A. Evans, Class of 2008. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving young man or woman who demonstrates a devotion to community, who is hardworking, respectful and shares a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • PEYSER FAMILY INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) SCHOLARSHIP

    The Peyser Family International Baccalaureate (IB) Scholarship Fund was created in November 2011 by Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick M. Peyser III, Class of 1968. This scholarship is awarded in support a student with demonstrated financial need who is either entering the IB program as a junior, or who shows strong promise of entering the program in a subsequent year. Preference for the scholarship will be given to the student whose personal growth will be most enhanced by this experience.
  • PILALAS CENTER FOR MATH & SCIENCE ENDOWMENT

    The Pilalas Center for Math & Science Endowment was established by the McIninch Foundation for the building maintenance needs of the Pilalas Center.
  • PINGREE FAMILY THEATRE ENDOWMENT FUND

    The Pingree Family Theatre Endowment was established by Will L. and Lucy G. Pingree P’12 in support of Go Beyond: The Campaign for New Hampton School. The purpose of the endowment fund is to support the theater program.
  • PROVOST SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Provost Scholarship Fund was created in 2006 by Stephen and Ginny Provost, parents of Christopher “Chip” Provost, Class of 2006, to benefit a New Hampton School student from Manchester, New Hampshire. Financial aid from the fund is awarded annually to a Manchester native who demonstrates financial need.
  • RALPH E. SHACKETT 1959 FUND

    The Ralph E. Shackett '59 Fund was established by Thomas H. Berry and Jennifer Shackett Berry '83, P’07, ’10, ’15 and supported by friends and family in loving memory of Jennifer's father, Ralph E. Shackett, New Hampton School Class of 1959. The purpose of the fund is unrestricted support of New Hampton School.
  • RALPH S. O'CONNOR ENDOWMENT FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING

    This prize recognizes a faculty member who has been rated best by a selection committee made up of two student leaders, two administrative faculty, and the Head of School. The winner of this annual prize will receive funds for Professional Development in their growth as a member of the teaching faculty.
  • RALPH S. O'CONNOR HOUSE MAINTENANCE FUND

    This fund was created in 2015 by Ralph S. O'Connor to endow the maintenance and care of the Ralph S. O'Connor House.
  • RICHARD M. LILLY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Richard M. Lilly Scholarship Fund was created in November 2004 by Richard M. Lilly, Class of 1966. The recipient of this scholarship must be eligible for financial aid and participate in New Hampton School’s Academic Support Program.
  • ROBERT A. PHILLIPS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Robert A. Phillips Scholarship Fund was created in March 2005 by Robert A. Phillips, Class of 1942. It is an aid award for academic excellence, given to a native-born citizen, male or female, for more than one year if possible. This award may be combined with another award. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 average.
  • ROBERT AND SALLY KENNEDY ENDOWMENT FOR THE ACADEMIC RESEARCH CENTER

    This endowment fund was created in 1998 by Robert and Sally Kennedy to help provide for the Academic Research Center at New Hampton School.
  • ROBERT D. KENNEDY ’50 SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Robert D. Kennedy Scholarship Fund was established by the Kennedy Family, along with supporters and friends of Robert D. Kennedy ’50. This scholarship is distributed annually to support students, male or female, with a demonstrated need for financial assistance to attend New Hampton School.
  • ROBERT HOLMES PATTEE ENDOWED TEACHING CHAIR IN PHYSICS

    Jeffrey C. Pattee, Class of 1964, and Martha D. Pattee established the Robert Holmes Pattee Endowed Teaching Chair in Physics in April 2018 to honor Jeff's late father, Robert Holmes Pattee. The intent of the Robert Holmes Pattee Endowed Teaching Chair in Physics is to support the salary, professional development and educational needs of a physics faculty member at New Hampton School.
  • STUDENT SUPPORT ENDOWMENT FUND

    The Student Support Endowment Fund was created to enhance community and inclusion at New Hampton School. Specifically, the fund will benefit leadership development experiences for students of color and program needs of the Black Affinity Group.
  • T. HOLMES MOORE & NORMA JEAN MOORE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The T. Holmes Moore and Norma Jean Moore Endowed Scholarship Fund was established during Reunion 2008 by friends and family of T. Holmes Moore ‘38 and Norma Jean Moore to benefit a New Hampton School student. The income from this Fund will be distributed annually to a deserving student, who is hardworking, respectful and demonstrates a passion for learning through academics, athletics and citizenship.
  • TESSIER/TYSON CROSS COUNTRY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Tessier/Tyson Cross Country Scholarship Fund was created in 2006 by Thomas and Diane Tessier to benefit a New Hampton School boy or girl who participates in cross country.
  • THE 1978 MENS ICE HOCKEY ENDOWMENT FUND

    The purpose of this fund is to support the Men's Varsity Ice Hockey program including demonstrated financial need for a student-athlete as well as programmatic initiatives and incidendials. The support will be provided annually.
  • THOMAS DIEHL ENDOWMENT FUND

    The Class of 1968 has established the Thomas Diehl Endowment Fund to recognize his impact as an inspiring teacher, coach and advisor to students during his 27-year career at New Hampton School. The intent of the Thomas Diehl Endowment Fund is to provide ongoing funding for new educational programs and scholarships for highly qualified students.
  • TIMOTHY D. ROMAGNA MEMORIAL FUND FOR MUSIC

    The Timothy D. Romagna Memorial Fund for Music was established in April of 2013 for the support of New Hampton School music students and music education.
  • VAN INGEN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    The Van Ingen Family Fund was created by Bill and Sally Van Ingen P'21 in April 2022 to support the ongoing mission and vision of New Hampton School. The fund will support students with the ability to participate in the full scope of the New Hampton School experience. The Fund will provide financial support for incidental costs, above and beyond tuition, for our highest need students.
  • WILLIAM D. STIRRUP FUND

    The William D. Stirrup Fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. William A. Stirrup in 1968 in memory of William D. Stirrup, NHS ’61. This scholarship is distributed annually to a deserving male student who demonstrates skill in academics, excellence in athletics and practices good citizenship.
  • WILLIAMS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

    This fund, established in 2021, supports the financial assistance of faculty and staff students who attend New Hampton School and are eligible for need-based aid. Offering a top-notch and affordable education for these students allows New Hampton to attract and retain great educators who otherwise might not have this opportunity.
  • WINER FAMILY ENDOWMENT FUND

    The Winer Family dedicates their planned gift and annual payments to this allocated fund for the professional development of faculty of color to advance diversity initiatives at New Hampton School.
