March is a special time of year at New Hampton School as the Admission Committee extends admission invitations to select applicants.
During the last eight weeks, the staff has thoughtfully reviewed the files of the many young people eager to be part of the school community in the coming year. These students began the admission process with visits as early as last fall and completed the process by writing an application that includes five personal essays, assembling four letters of recommendation, and taking standardized tests such as the SSAT. The students most able to contribute positively to our community have been identified, and letters are in the mail congratulating them on their selection for admission.
Admitted students and their families are invited to vist campus on April 5th for our seventh annual "Revisit Day." Students are matched with a buddy for the day and attend classes, go to school meeting, and have lunch in order to gain firsthand knowledge about a day at NHS. Parents attend a series of informational sessions with senior staff and have lunch with teaching faculty. Usually attended by close to 50 families, the day is a great opportunity for admitted students to gain further insight into what makes NHS such a unique learning communtiy.
Families are asked to commit to enrollment by responding by April 10. A signed enrollment agreement and deposit are due April 15.
Andrew Churchill, dean of admission, says, "New Hampton School is an educational community that seeks to develop the individual and unique strengths of its students. In this process, we build positive relationships with our students based on common interests and shared experiences. We challenge our students to take risks and test their abilities in a supportive environment. From all of admitted applicants, we will expect hard work, dedication, and a committed effort in all areas of school life. In return, we will offer a rewarding experience filled with guidance, support, and friendship."
