Aside from WA tying the score twice in the first quarter, the Huskies maintained the lead from start to finish today. Elyse Ngenda was hot from the start netting 9 points in the first quarter. Casey Stores knocked down 2 threes in the second period and Serenity Lancaster's strong presence in the paint helped New Hampton build a 9-point lead at the half. Lancaster and Ngenda continued to scorch the nets in the second half finishing the game with 22 and 21 points respectively. Stores knocked down her third three-pointer in the third quarter and the Huskies went on to win 61-51 on the road.
Several Huskies contributed to today's victory. Ava Perry moved well without the ball and contributed 4 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist. Kitt Jones continued to wreak havoc on the defensive end (5 reb, 2 ast, 1 stl). Shannon O'Leary looked confident in the post, snagging 5 rebounds and dishing 2 assists. Casey Stores had 9 points and 2 assists. Abby Schrader chipped in with 3 points and 1 assist, while Tahlia Pena grabbed 2 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Lancaster ended with a double-double (22 pts, 11 rebs) and 4 assists. Ngenda was close behind with 21 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.
New Hampton improves to 11-6 and will travel to Lakes Region League opponent Proctor Academy on Wednesday.
