Hot Start for Huskies

New Hampton battled Lakes Region League opponent Kimball Union on Mark Tilton Court today. The Huskies raced out to a 25-8 lead in the first quarter thanks to the strong inside presence of Serenity Lancaster and Shannon O'Leary, and back-to-back 3-pointers from Adriana Hernandez.

Elyse Ngenda and Tahlia Pena chipped in with a few triples of their own in the second quarter giving the Huskies a 42-13 advantage at halftime. After a slow third quarter, the Huskies picked up the scoring pace in the fourth behind some strong drives to the hoop by Casey Stores.

New Hampton pulled down 31 rebounds, dished 14 assists, and had 10 steals this afternoon. Pena led the team in rebounds with 6, Lancaster and Ngenda had 5 each, and Abby Schrader had 4. Ngenda earned top honors for assists with 6, Pena and Lancaster had 3 apiece. Hernandez, Pena, and Lancaster had 2 steals.

Scoring leaders today were Lancaster with 21, O'Leary with a season-high 14, Ngenda with 10, and Hernandez with 8. Mackensie and Michaela Mercier gave the Huskies some solid minutes today.
