With a
basketball legacy that includes accomplished college and NBA players as well as current NCAA coaches and NBA executives, New Hampton School has always been on the national radar as a program that provides student-athletes with both a rewarding and challenging student-athlete experience. A national television audience will get to see that legacy on the court in the form of the 2012-13 Men’s Varsity A Basketball team. The Huskies will play Huntington Prep of West Virginia in the
Spalding HoopHall Classic in Springfield, Massachusetts, at 5 pm EST on Sunday, January 20, on ESPN.
“This is a great opportunity for our team to play on a national stage and illustrate how we play as a team,” Said sixth-year New Hampton School coach Pete Hutchins, also a 2001 graduate of the School. “New Hampton is a wonderful place to study, live, work, and develop as a player and it’s rewarding to give our students the opportunity to compete in front of a nationally televised audience and represent everything we stand for as a school and program. The guys are really excited.”
The Huskies, who are off to a 9-2 start this season, will face off against the No. 1-ranked player in the nation — Andrew Wiggins. Still undecided about his college plans, Wiggins is a 6-foot-7 forward believed to be a future NBA standout. He leads a team that is 15-1 on the season after a recent loss to Prime Prep of Dallas Texas.
The matchup in Springfield will be the fifth game in seven days for the Huskies, who will host league foes St. Thomas More and Brewster on Monday (January 14) and Wednesday (January 16), respectively, before traveling to Phillips Exeter on Friday, Boston for matchup with Notre Dame Prep in the BABC invite on Saturday, and the ESPN game on Sunday. The St. Thomas More and Brewster games will be broadcast live on
New Hampton School TV.
