Coaching Athletes to Play at the Next Level
The Men's Varsity A Basketball Program is recognized as one of the premier prep school programs in the country. It is an elite team that attracts top student-athletes from all over the country and world. The program aims to develop players and mold them into a tight, cohesive unit. This will prepare them to excel early in their careers at the collegiate level.
Coach Gale emphasizes skill development and playing the "right way." Players are given opportunities to showcase their skills to college coaches, and with the help of the coaching staff, find the appropriate college destination. The Varsity A team also strives to teach student athletes how to be exemplary students and productive members of the New Hampton community.

Andrew Gale
BioHead Coach
Andrew Gale comes from the University of Vermont where he worked for four years as the lead student manager and as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Team. During his time at UVM, the Catamounts won an America East Championship, had the longest winning streak in the country during the 2016-2017 Season, went undefeated in the America East Conference, and earned four post season bids: one to the NCAA Tournament, one to the NIT and two to the CBI. While completing his graduate work, he served as an Academic Advisor by helping players manage their coursework while competing at the Division I level.
Andrew was named Head Coach of the Men’s Varsity A team in May 2019 after 2 seasons as Assistant Coach. During his first year in March 2020, his team beat Brewster Academy in the NEPSAC AAA finals for the schools’ first Championship since 2003. Alex Karaban was named player of the game and has since gone on to win the 2023 NCAA Championship with UCONN.
In March 2023, New Hampton was invited to participate in the National Prep Championship Tournament in Worcester, MA. Coach Gale strives to develop his team to play at their highest level with respect and integrity on and off the court.
Andrew was born and raised in Williston, Vermont. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Business Administration and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Andrew is a member of the Admissions Department. He spends his summers golfing and on Lake Champlain in Vermont with his family and friends. -

Huskies drop heartbreaker to Cushing
Read MoreHuskies dropped a hard fought battle vs. Cushing Academy during the NEBL championship weekend. In the first half, New Hampton was able to go on an early run that was feeding their offensive confidence. We then went scoreless for 6 minutes, but were able to keep the game close with our defense.In the second half, each team traded runs of 5-8 points, and it was a back and forth game. We were able to get some stops late that allowed us to get out and run to get easy buckets. With 8 seconds left, Cushing got to the free throw line, and made both putting them up one. On the ensuing possession, we were unable to get a shot off to win the game.We had two players reach double figures: Mason Blackwood (21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals and 1 block) and Naz Meyer (15 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 assist). -

We had 8 first half turnovers and we were very loose with it. Our energy was inconsistent, but we were carried by Ty Tabales' big shots and an overall solid defensive effort. We were down 7 at the break.In the second half we battled back early to take the lead. Jayden Harrington got the second half started with a 3 and Naz Meyer made some big shots early in the half. Chad Cook and Mason Blackwood kept the Huskies afloat with huge buckets and great defensive intensity in the middle portion. The Huskies got out to a strong start offensively but let their foot off the gas. We saw a double digit first half lead shrink to 6 at the half.Again, the Huskies started out the second half strong, scoring back-to-back buckets in 30 seconds resulting in a quick time out. Bridgton then went on to separate runs that led to a double digit lead for them. The Huskies responded and cut it back down to 3 with 7:45 to go. Read MoreNew Hampton was able to move to 20-2 on the year and 9-1 in AAA. The Huskies got off to a poor start, turning the ball over and not getting back on defense in transition. Offensively they were taken out of their game by the full court pressure applied by St. Thomas More. STM opened up a double digit lead half way through the first, but the Huskies were able to cut it down to 1 at half time.At the start of the second, the Huskies came out firing. They were able to turn defense into offense (Mason Blackwood had a ferocious dunk off of a steal that led to a STM timeout). Naz Meyer went on his own personal 8-0 run and the Huskies were able to share the ball. In crunch time, the Huskies got stops, finished possessions with rebounds and were able to make their free throws late. New Hampton made a lot of 3's early, but struggled to guard the paint.In the second half, New Hampton jumped on Newman early and didn't look back. The Huskies forced several turnovers that led to run outs and highlight plays. The defense forced a shot clock violation on the next possession. Picking up full court, forcing turnovers on the defensive end, and limited KUA to one shot down the floor. The offense was in a flow and rhythm, which built confidence across the entire team.Huskies had 5 in double figures. On the offensive end, the ball was moving freely and we used strong defensive possessions to get us great looks on the other end.In the second half, it was more of the same during the first portion of the half. As the game went on, we got out of our groove and got a little careless with the ball, and had some defensive breakdowns late. The Huskies came out flat and could never get into a groove.In the first half, the Huskies were sloppy, turning over the ball with several careless turnovers and struggled to get easy open looks.In the second half, the Huskies pressed and forced tough shots, couldn't capitalize from the free throw line and Exeter executed their offense at a high level. Exeter put forth a great defensive game plan and closed out the Huskies late in emphatic fashion.Exeter is coached by New Hampton alum, Jay Tilton. Coach Tilton has a great team that will compete for another Class A championship this year and is off to a great 8-0 start.Huskies were led by Naz Meyer who had 14 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. -

The ball was moving much better on the offensive end which resulted in a lot of quality shots. On the defensive end, Gus Fried made an excellent effort play to win the possession, which set the tone defensively for the rest of the game.In the second half, the Huskies dictated on the defensive end, forcing turnovers leading to high quality looks at the rim, including a highlight reel dunk from Naz Meyer. In the first half, the Huskies struggled to generate easy offense and could not guard the 3 point line. Tabor was able to jump out to an early lead.In the second half, sparked by the energy of Mason Blackwood and Gus Fried, the Huskies were able to separate from Tabor. It started with stingy defense, that allowed New Hampton to get out in transition. Some big shots late by Tabales, Harrington and Meyer, put Tabor away as the Huskies were able to knock down their free throws. -
Huskies Bounce Back

The Huskies forced some turnovers, but it just wasn't enough.The Huskies had had 3 in double figures, Keyshuan Tillery (26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists), Naz Meyer (16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists), Mason Blackwood (13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists). Chad Cook (8 points and 6 rebounds) and Ty Tabales (7 points) made contributions on the stat sheet. -

Read MoreThis game was a rematch of last year's National Championship Semifinal.Western Reserve won that matchup and went on to beat Putnam Science in the National Championship. Western Reserve is run by fellow Huskies Matt Garvey and Pete Hutchins. Coach Garvey and Hutchins run one of the best prep programs in the country! A belated congratulations on their National Championship!In the first half, the Huskies struggled to make their shots on the perimeter, going 0-10 from 3 point land. They were able to overcome that performance by attacking the rim in transition and applying pressure on the offensive glass. New Hampton also turned in their best defensive half of the season, holding WRA to 25 total points, on 9-28 (32.1%) shooting and 3-12 (25%) from 3.The second half, WRA came out firing. They blitzed the Huskies, shooting a scorching 57% from the floor and 50% from 3. New Hampton was able to come up with big stops late, and shot 11-12 from the free throw line to close the game out.Huskies had 3 double digit scores in Naz Meyer (22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals), Mason Blackwood (21 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist) and Keyshuan Tillery (16 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal). Huskies Knock Off IMG
Read MoreNew Hampton picked up a huge non conference win this weekend vs. a talented IMG team. In the previous two matchups vs. IMG, the two teams have been separated by an average of 4 points with teams splitting the series. This matchup was no different.In the first half, the Huskies relied on a barrage of 3's and playing in transition. New Hampton scored 10 points off of turnovers in the first half and held IMG to 14% from the 3 point line.In the second half, the Huskies continued their hot shooting, going 9-19 (52.9%) from 3. They came up with key stops late as IMG made a push late. We gave up 54 points in the paint over the course of the game, which is an area that needs to improve moving forward.The Huskies had 4 in double figures. Keyshuan Tillery (28 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal), Naz Meyer (20 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists), Mason Blackwood (16 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals), and Jayden Harrington (15 points, 3 assists and 2 rebounds). -
Huskies Move to 2-0 in AAA
The Huskies finished their road trip with a second win against Darrow School. We found ourselves in a back and forth offensive matchup but were able to put it away late in the second half. New Hampton was led by Keyshuan Tillery and Chad Cook. Keyshuan finished with 25 points, 11 assists, 3 rebounds, and 5 steals. Chad Cook had 19 points, 7 rebounds and an assist. Naz Meyer (18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals) and Jayden Harrington (10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals) also ended up in double figures. Huskies Win a Thriller
New Hampton was able to hold off Putnam Science in an instant classic. The Huskies hit a wall in the middle of the first half, but were able to close out the half on a 8-2 run and cut it to 5 at half time. New Hampton was able to go on a quick run to start the second half and pull even with PSA. As the second half went on, Putnam wore New Hampton down and had a 5 point lead with 2 minutes to go. The Huskies were able to tie the game with 35 seconds to go with a Keyshuan Tillery and Jayden Harrington 3 on back to back possessions. The Huskies had the ball with 35 seconds to go, and were able to take advantage, making two extra passes, which led to an open dagger 3 from Blackwood! Huskies Win Opener
New Hampton traveled to Hoosac to kick off their 24-25 campaign. The Huskies came out slow but were able to finish the half strong, going on a 19-7 run in the final 5 minutes of the half, capped off by a 360 dunk by Naz, assisted by Keyshuan. Huskies moved to 1-0 on the season and in AAA. The Huskies finished with 4 players in double figures. Ty Tabales (13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal), Naz Meyer (13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals), Keyshuan Tillery (12 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals), and Mason Blackwood (11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks). Huskies were able to finish strong against a young and hard working Brimmer team. In the first half, the Huskies came out flat, and were really loose with the ball. In the second half, they turned up the defensive intensity and were sharing the ball. They ended up have 5 double digit scorers: Mason Blackwood (17), Chad Cook (16), Jayden Harrington (14), Will Goode (10) and Gus Fried (10). New Hampton Moves to 3-0 in AAA
Read MoreThe Huskies came out of the break rusty and played a very sluggish first half. We settled for a lot of tough looks early, were punished on the offensive glass, and were sloppy in our execution. We found ourselves down 9 heading into the half.At the start of the second, it was a lot of the same and with 15 minutes remaining, the Huskies were down 13. We were able to generate some momentum on the defensive end, which was led by Ty Tabales. We were able to force turnovers and create easier looks. Jayden Harrington buried a clutch corner 3 as the shot clock expired which put the Huskies up for good.We were able to close out the final 15 minutes on a +25 point differential and held off a feisty Vermont Academy team on the road to move to 3-0 in AAA (all on the road!)The Huskies had 5 players reach double figures: Keyshuan Tillery (24 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal and 1 block), Naz Meyer (18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assists and 1 block), Mason Blackwood (14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist and 1 block), Ty Tabales (12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal) and Chad Cook (10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals).
