Huskies drop first game of the season to Phillips Exeter 9-3

Justin Carey
New Hampton struggled offensively and loses it's first game of the season at Phillips Exeter Academy.
The Huskies traveled to Phillips Exeter on Wednesday for their first contest of the season.  New Hampton competed early, but Exeter was more aggressive at the plate and took advantage of some base running and fielding mistakes committed by the Huskies.

The Huskies jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 2nd inning on a bases clearing triple by Conor Griffin.  Unfortunately, this was the only offensive production that that Huskies could muster up on the day.  Baserunning mistakes and some timing issues at the plate proved to be costly for New Hampton.

Defensively, New Hampton saw three different pitchers take the mound.  Bodie Bartram made his New Hampton debut and pitched well, but the Exeter hitters were just too aggressive and took advantage of some untimely fielding mistakes.  Dylan Fanale also made his New Hampton debut going 2 innings, giving up 3 hits and 4 runs on the day.  Kyle Farrell looked sharp early on striking out 3 batters and only giving up 2 hits and 1 run over 2 complete innings.

New Hampton looks to bounce back against Proctor Academy on Saturday in their first Lakes Region League game of the season.
