Huskies Tie Governor's in Home Opener

NEW HAMPTON, NH --

The huskies opened their season at Jacobson arena against a young Governor's Academy hockey team. Huskies came out hard, and Govs came out fast. The huskies were dominating puck possession, until Govs scored off an unsuspecting shot that stunned both Cara Kuczek '26 and all the defenders on the ice. About 7 minutes later, the huskies answered the Governor's goal with a powerplay tip off a point shot from Addy Peel '26 by Trinity Walsh '25. It was a beautiful tip for Trinity's first goal in 2 years, coming off an ACL injury. 1-1 going into the second. Govs came out hard in the second and they had their chances, but Cara Kuczek '26 had an answer for each scoring chance to keep the score tied at 1. The huskies didn't have their best period in the second as they could not capitalize on the chances they had. Both goalies were lights out to keep the game tied at 1 going into the third. The third period is when the huskies came alive, dominating the offensive zone. However, penalties proved to be detrimental to the huskies' momentum, as Govs capitalized on their powerplay, taking a 2-1 lead with 6:13 left. The huskies did not back down, and continued to pepper the Govs goalie. A scrum in front led to multiple chances to put a rebound in, and Julia Loughlin '25 found the puck and scored her 4th of the year to tie the game at 2 with 3:46 left. The huskies continued to pressure Govs in their sone, but were unsuccessful in their finishes to win the game before OT. The huskies dominated OT, peppering the Govs goalie with chances left and right, but were still unsuccessful in their finishes. A breakaway by Caroline Thomas '25 was the best chance of OT for the huskies, but she could not capitalize to end the game. Goaltender Cara Kuczek '26 was lights out in OT and helped the huskies hold on for the tie. The huskies are back on the road again this Friday 12/13 for the Huskies' Lakes' Region opener against St. Paul's
