Huskies Advance to NEPSAC Semifinal with Win Over Gunn
GROTON, MA --
The huskies were on the road to a neutral site (Lawrence Academy) to face off against the #8 seeded Frederick Gunn School. This is the first time the two teams have met in recent years. The huskies started off very strong, dominating play for most of the first period. They had their fair share of chances, but could not find the back of the net. Goaltender Elizabeth Vincent '27 had an answer for each of Gunn's shots to keep them off the board. The huskies outshot Gunn, but the score remained tied at 0 going into the second. New Hampton started the second very similarly to the first, dominating possession and zone time right off the opening face-off. Caroline Thomas '25 opened the scoring for the huskies, finishing a back door tap in. However, penalties got the huskies in trouble, as Gunn tied the game on a 5-on-3 man advantage. The rest of the period remained scoreless, but the huskies outshot Gunn 24-5 in the second period alone. The third period is when the huskies fully came alive as the offense really started to click. Julia Loughlin '25 ended her scoring drought and gave the huskies a 2-1 lead. Shortly after, Caroline Thomas netted her second of the night, and fourth goal in the last two games to give the huskies some breathing room with a 3-1 score. Elizabeth Vincent continued to keep Gunn off the board, even with a 6-on-4 man advantage with 2 minutes to go in the game. Trinity Walsh '25 sealed the deal for the huskies with an empty net goal. The huskies advance to the NEPSAC semifinals and are back at home on Saturday 3/8 against St. George's School.
