Huskies Beat St. Paul's in Home Opener

New Hampton raced out to a 23-6 advantage in the first quarter and never looked back. Junior Elyse Ngenda sparked the run netting 13 points. The Huskies played swarming defense resulting in 12 steals and a 36-12 halftime lead. However, SPS outworked the Huskies on the glass, especially on the offensive end. St. Paul's guard Rhya Wilson scored 10 points while grabbing several rebounds.

New Hampton moved the ball well in the second half and continued to look for the best shot. Unselfish play led to an impressive 20 assists for the Huskies while committing just 8 turnovers in today's contest.

Sophomore Mackensie Mercier logged 15 minutes and scored her first varsity points on a mid-range jump shot in the third quarter. Serenity Lancaster '26 was aggressive going to the basket and scored 9 points, matching her first half output for a team-high 18. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line, while snagging 6 rebounds and blocking 3 shots.

Ava Perry '27 and Adriana Hernandez '26 were spark plugs for the Huskies all game. They crashed the boards, dove on the floor for loose balls, and made solid contributions on both ends of the court. Perry finished with 8 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Hernandez added 5 points, 6 assists, 4 steals, and 3 rebounds. The team combined for 21 steals, Ngenda with a team-high 5.

Rounding out the scoring for New Hampton was Casey Stores '27 with 12 points (all in the second half), Shannon O'Leary '27 with 9, and senior Tahlia Pena with 6. Wilson ended the game with 24 points for St. Paul's.

New Hampton improves to 2-0 and will travel to Washington DC this weekend to play three games in the She Got Game Classic.
