Saints' Late Threes Sink Huskies

The Huskies made the long trek to Barrington, RI tonight to take on Triple AAA opponent St. Andrew's School. Elyse Ngenda got New Hampton on the board before the game even started with 2 foul shots due to a technical foul on the home team. The two teams exchanged leads throughout the first quarter, but the hosts finished on top with a 9-14 advantage. It was more of the same in the second quarter. The Huskies were only down by 1 with 3:20 to go in the half, but the Saints went on a run draining 3 triples in a row to extend their lead. New Hampton's Casey Stores sank a three with time winding down to bring the score to 24-31 at the intermission.

The Huskies cut the lead to 6 after 3 quarters and began to play with a greater sense of urgency in the 4th. With just under 5 minutes to play, Serenity Lancaster scored on a turnaround jumper to push the Huskies ahead of the Saints, 51-49. St. Andrew's once again got hot from beyond the arc and suddenly had a 7-point cushion. The Huskies continued to fight but time was not on their side and they were forced to foul.

Ngenda finished with a game-high 24 points to go with 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Lancaster was the only other Husky in double-figures with 14 points and 13 rebounds. She dished a team-high 5 assists. Ava Perry chipped in with 7 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists. Casey Stores, Adriana Hernandez, and Tahlia Pena rounded out the scoring with 5, 4, and 3 points respectively.

New Hampton (8-3) will face undefeated Tabor Academy in Marion, MA at 2 pm tomorrow.
