In their final regular-season game, the Huskies arrived at Kimball Union Academy with determination and energy, ready to make a statement. From the moment the buses pulled in, the team was hyped and focused, taking warmups seriously and setting the pace right from the opening whistle.
The Huskies controlled the first quarter, keeping the ball in their offensive end and defending fiercely when the Wildcats managed to gain possession. Midway through, the Huskies earned their first offensive corner. With a sharp insert from Kelsey to Kennedy, who took a direct and powerful shot, the Huskies took the lead at 1-0.
The Wildcats came out strong in the second quarter, pushing the Huskies to stay focused. KUA’s persistent offensive efforts led to a well-executed corner that tied the game at 1-1. During halftime, the Huskies regrouped, discussing the need to maintain their energy and play their game—and they delivered.
In the second half, the Huskies dominated possession, earning multiple offensive corners and making numerous shots. Although some went wide or were cleared by the Wildcats' goalie, the team’s persistence paid off. Another offensive corner came, and though the play didn’t go exactly as planned, the Huskies were ready for rebounds. Great passes led to JL finding the back of the net, giving the Huskies a 2-1 lead. Not long after, a fantastic passing sequence set up JL’s second goal, extending the lead to 3-1.
Just before the end of the third quarter, KUA answered back with a strong offensive push, scoring off a corner to bring the game within one goal, 3-2. But in the fourth quarter, the Huskies rallied, bringing incredible energy and focus. They shut down KUA’s offense, stepping to every ball, creating defensive walls, and putting continuous pressure on the Wildcats' defense. Lily Thomas sent several strong balls into the circle, but while the Huskies got touches, they couldn’t quite find the net again.
With four minutes left, KUA called a timeout to regroup, but the Huskies used the break to amp up even more. The final minutes saw intense pressure from the Huskies, and as the clock ticked down, KUA earned an offensive corner with no time remaining, pulling their goalie forward in a desperate attempt to tie the game.
The Huskies came out strong from the cage, with Mary-Ann fierce in net and the defense hustling to clear the ball. The KUA goalie managed to keep it in, and Cara took on the challenge, fighting hard to gain possession and ultimately clearing the ball out of the circle. Her tenacity sealed the win, and the Huskies celebrated a 3-2 victory!
This thrilling game capped off an incredible regular season, with the Huskies going undefeated in the Lakes Region. Now, they eagerly await their NEPSAC standings and look forward to preparing for playoffs next week. LET’S GO, HUSKIES!
